nightlife

You don’t go to this undergound rock club because it’s glitzy, or even clean, hence our use of logo and not an image of the super low-ceiling nightclub privy to dance floor vomiting and occasional passer-outer. Don’t come expecting yet another Sydney hotel lounge, as the infamous Slip Inn is actually a multi-venue club space with separate pub-theme bar known for its wild child following. Chinese Laundry is accessed through a private entrance, leading to an interior lined in Eastern icons including oversize Buddha statues, chainmail curtains and smoky mirrors. Walls and ceiling are painted scarlet red and glossy black, adding to the exotic ambiance of the club that has progressed from a weekend VIP spot to full-on club classic in the passing of a few years. The club is laid-out like an Aussie-interpretation of the classic Chinese hutong, arranged in three adjoining rooms with central courtyard percolating with edgy singles expressing themselves through ripped designer denim and 9-inch stilettos. Music is as good as it gets in local nightlife with cutting edge assortment of house rock, techno, progressive and tribal nights that include special dance events and private shows running throughout summer and the Mardi Gras season.

Tips

The club is only open on weekend, and the best night ia Saturday despite the occasional beer brawl and back alley romps.

Last Word

A Buddha meets Alice in Chains at one of Sydney’s longest running nightclubs located in the ever-evolving Slip Inn owned by Justin Hemmes.
